Those of you who live in milder climates may be wondering why we in the still-frozen northern part of this continent are moaning about the seemingly endless winter this year. Here’s why.
Last spring, March 18 to be exact, I got out on my first ride of the year (link) down a somewhat muddy but mostly snow-free California Road.
This year, a week later in March, the missus and I got on the 4X4 and took a quick comparison ride to see how the road was faring and whether the beaver dams were still intact. (They were, but that’s likely only because the spring thaw hasn’t started here yet.)
As you can see there are patches of road showing through but there’s still a lot of the white stuff on the ground and so we wait, and complain, and wait some more, and complain some more.
So please bear with us; there’s a legitimate reason we’re miserable.
That was a nice ride, snow or not. Is this your land?
ReplyDeleteI would enjoy seeing a springtime ride thru here, too! Maybe show off some wildflowers!
Martha:
DeleteNo it's not my land except for a small bit at the start. Some is private but most is crown lands (not sure what the US equivalent is) so the general public has access. This is actually a public road that is maintained (sort of) in the summer but in the winter becomes a snowmobile/4X4 trail. It's only about 10 kilometres long and I often ride it on either 2 wheels or 4, so I'll post more pictures/videos when the snow is gone and the wildflowers are starting.
Canajun:
ReplyDeleteAs compared to you, we have beach weather here. Spring has arrived

Bob:
DeleteWay to rub it in. Please send some this way.
Canajun:
Deleteas Karen said below. We have to rub it in while we can. I know the tables will turn and then we will be on the receiving end soon enough

DeleteYes, yes I can see why you might be inclined to complain about the weather. That snowy road is not conducive to riding on two wheels.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you need a Ural?
Trobairitz:
DeleteBeen over that ground before, and it just isn't going to happen. :(
Soon Canajun - soon. I hear the temperature is on the rise ... soon those westerners will be jealous of all the sunshine we have while they're enjoying the rain (snicker!)
ReplyDeleteWe live in hope Karen.
DeleteThere is always hope ... and today, well, it almost felt warm (as long as you were in the sun and moving fast enough.)
DeleteUK is no better! I went out today on the Inazuma 250 and froze like a block of ice after 30 minutes! At least I got out!
