Note to self: check tires more often!

In preparation for a short 4-day trip over to the Muskokas I did a complete once-over to make sure everything was working as it should. That’s when I found this:

From the wear on the screw it had been in the tire for some time, but fortunately only in the outer tread and had not punctured the inner cording. But who knows how it might have shifted as we headed down the road at speed, fully loaded and two-up.

  2. A good reminder why we should all check our tyres / tires more often.

    1. Yep, until we get lazy again and assume everything is okay until we get another reminder.

  4. So... you're saying that NOT catching the whole wheel on backwards for waaaaaay too long was a bad thing? ;)

  5. Dave, looking at that screw in that position has to make you wonder what combination of forces produced that result. Shrapnel from a hardware store explosion comes to mind

    1. That thought occurred to me as well but not being close to any exploding hardware stores recently there must be another explanation.

    1. True. I tend to be sloppy about pre-ride checks usually.

  7. Ouch! Good thing you discovered it before the ride.

    1. It's one of those things that could maybe stay there for hundreds of miles without doing any harm, or....... Anyway I'm glad it's out.
