Four weeks later….

What a difference a month makes.

Having just visited Grand Canyon I can imagine how disappointed visitors must be when they come across this sign and others like it at Bryce Canyon, or Zion, or any of the countless other national parks and monuments closed by the current nonsense happening in Washington. Like us they spent months planning their trips, possibly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, only to find all that time, effort and expense was for naught. And for no good reason.
Then, with nothing else to do, they turn on their TVs only to see certain Congressmen  and -women gloating and bragging about what a great job they’ve done in shutting down the US government.  It’s sad really.

  1. Our government is sad as a whole. This is not a government for the people, by the people and of the people.

    1. oldchigger - If it's any consolation the US is not unique in that regard. Politicians in general are in it for themselves only; the people are just an irritant needed to get them elected.

  2. So glad you managed to get in there before the shut down. I can't imagine how many people are on vacation to a national park and just can't enter.

Crater Lake Park is closed here in Oregon, and there are usually quite a few tourists before it is closed for winter.

    1. Well hopefully they'll sort it out quickly and the gates will open once again.

  3. It is sad for the tourists but I am more worried about the 800 000 workers who are not pulling paychecks. Furthermore, many of those jobs are in areas where the entire community depends on a large portion of the population having those safe and well-paid jobs.

    1. That's very true as well. Lots of folks are being hurt by what is in effect a coup by some pissed-off losers.
