I wanted to just keep going….

It was one of those perfect mornings. We’d had some rain overnight which cooled things off a bit so the temperature was in the low 20’s (about 70 or so for you Fahrenheit folks out there). The remnants of the storm clouds were still present in the early morning sky so I couldn't describe it as a “cloudless day” but it was obviously clearing and there was no need to worry about getting a soaking – at least not for the next few hours. The roads were wet though and the front wheel threw up a bit of spray, dampening my jeans from the knees down. I don’t know why but I love that feeling; the coolness of the spray coming up seems to be in perfect counterbalance to the heat of the sun on the rest of the body. Refreshing would be the term I’d use to describe the sensation, mentally as well as physically.
I wasn’t going very far, just 20 kilometres to the golf course, but I was sorely tempted just to keep going, riding into the sun until it was directly overhead and then turning around and following it back towards home as it set. I felt great, the ponies wanted to be let out, and a 300+ kilometre ride would have been an ideal way to celebrate a perfect late spring day.
hBCC84195Sadly I had a date to keep with a tournament and had to turn in at the club. The way I played however tells me I should have followed my first instincts and ridden as far away, as fast as I could, and never looked back – at least until sundown.
Oh well, until the next time.

  1. **Sigh** I know those feelings (both of them) all to well.

    1. And I'm sure we're not alone with conflicting interests.

  2. Sadly, it always seems like on the best riding days I have other commitments keeping me from riding off into the sunset.

I wish I had unlimited time and money in order to be able to ride as much as I want to. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening anytime soon.

    1. The answer to that problem is.... lottery tickets!

  3. Isn't golf just a good walk ruined?

I hate the perfect weather days when you have other obligations. I guess it makes us appreciate those longer rides when we do get them.

  4. Funny, despite all the stuff I've done over my life, riding a motorcycle has stuck with me ever since. Everything else has come and gone.

    1. Me too. Of all my serial hobbies/interests motorcycling has been the one constant for more than 40 years now.

  5. Last summer, on the final day of my 2 week ride, I too just wanted to keep going... rob a bank, kidnap a cheerleader, and just keep riding til I ran out of road... then sell the bike for a powerboat and make for the islands... swap the boat for a plane...

  6. Golf is the ONE constant in my life these past 20 years. Same golf buddy, same course. Meeting there weekly to play is like "church" to me!

So, YES, I relate to the golfing part AND to the wanting to just keep riding and riding.

Ironically as I read your post today is one of those days that I would love to pack a lunch and take off on the back roads and be gone all day.

    But I gotta work...sigh!

    1. Ah yes, work. While it funds our fun it also gets in the way of having it.

  7. Sometimes we just have those days that reminds us to appreciate them even more. I get the rain thing too. Something about the love/hate of it is always soothing.

    1. It is kind of a love/hate thing for sure. A little rain is nice and can be refreshing until it continues for days. Then it's mostly hate!
